There are two spiritual steroids that when embraced bring exponential growth in a believer in Christ. Sadly, many miss out on this potential growth because they’re overlooked.
Here they are:
Ephesians 4:11–13 (ESV)
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ….
Jesus chose to grow believers through the ministry of the church. He gave these ministry offices to His flock to grow them into the character of Christ. Here are three ways you can make sure you’re getting the most out of what your church offers.: 1. Stay plugged into your corporate worship weekly. Your Church attendance matters. After 14 years in ministry I can honestly tell you that people that attend church inconsistantly always lack spiritual maturity. 2. Get connected in a small group or small Bible study. You need deeper community beyond just Sunday morning. 3. Find an area to serve. You can’t just be about learning, God’s growing you to do the work of the ministry!
2. Life’s Trials: Here’s how resistance can grow you:
James 1:2–4 (ESV)
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
The upside of your faith being tested is that it can bring the greatest reward: spiritual maturity. Like a muscle grows from resistance, our faith when tested matures. You can look life’s hardships in the eye with joy because God has promised that our trials don’t have to be in vain. When we allow them trials make us like more Jesus.
I don’t know about you but I want to take hold of everything God has for me. In 2012 there are two gifts you can embrace as steroids for your spiritual growth: the ministry of your local church and life’s trials. Seize them and grow.
Your turn! How have either of these gifts grown you? What would you add? Share below
