I have a confession.
Countless times in my life, when life has hit the fan, I’ve made an all too familiar mistake: I’ve counted on myself to get me through it. I’ve chosen to lean on my intellect, strength, and talent. But,here’s the problem. There’s not much there. They always fall short. And it’s not just me that pays the price. My family, friends, and ministry take a hit too. In fact, most of my life problems have come from me looking other places besides The Lord for help.
Can you relate?
You very well might believe that Christ’s death and resurrection is enough to save you for eternity, but do you trust Him with your present day life: your family, your finances, your health, your calling, your future? Or do you merely see Christ as the one getting heaven ready and until then you’re on your own?
Here’s the truth: God offers you more than an eternity with Him, he offers you a refuge in Him: right here…right now.
Let me share with you with these words written by King David:
“This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?— the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless.” Psalm 18:30-32 ESV
“He is a shield for all those who take refuge in him…”
Get this! The God of the universe offers Himself as your shield, your comforter, and sustainer. Why would you go anywhere else?
Spend some time reflecting on the scripture above. Ask yourself, “Where am I trying to be my own shield?”, “Is there someone or something else that I’m looking to for help instead The Lord?” “Who or What am I trying to fix on my own?”. Ask God to bring you to a place of complete surrender, placing your entire faith in Him. Take some to listen to the Holy Spirit as He points you to truth. I’m praying with you.
