Last night I was jarred awake by my youngest son who ran into my room after waking up from a nightmare. After I talked with him about his dream, I prayed with him. As he wrapped his arms around me he said, “Dad, can I sleep in here?”. “Sure”, I said. After running to get his pillow, he climbed under the covers and I turned out the light. As we lay there for a moment he said, “Dad….your hand.” I reached out toward him and he took hold of it like a desperate drowning man clinging to a life-line just thrown to him.
As he drifted off to sleep I was reminded by the comfort I’ve found in my heavenly father when walking through what seemed like bad dream in life. God’s words in the Bible have been to me a life preserver keeping me afloat when I’ve felt adrift on the open churning sea of my circumstances. Here is a verse I cling to:
For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.
Though you may not see a ship in sight, know that the Captain of the ship has not forgotten you. Cling to His Word. He will not fail you. He. Is. Faithful.
