Prayer Challenge: Day 1 “Our Father”

Welcome to our 31 Days of Prayer! Each morning we’re going to be reading a scripture and using it as a launching pad for prayer that day. Let’s get started.

Take a moment and read Matt. 6: 9-13:

9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

This morning let’s focus on Jesus’ words, “Our Father”. In this one phrase Jesus unpacks a ton of joy for us to bathe in. Not only is Jesus the son of God, father-and-son-risebut Jesus now shares that we are all sons and daughters of God by saying, “Our Father”.

No matter their intentions, God is infinitely better than the earthly versions of fathers we have here on earth. If you’re going to have any type of meaningful prayer life, you’re going to have to continually come back to this truth: you have a heavenly father that loves you unconditionally.

Take some time reflecting and sharing with God what a good “Dad” He is and how he’s shown up in these roles: provider, protecter, counselor, rescuer, teacher, coach, disciplinarian…the list goes on. Don’t rush this, be specific.

Now, take some time to be still and listen to what God’s Spirit wants to say to you.

Feel free to talk with your heavenly Dad throughout the day. He’s always available.
