Learning to Pray Farther

One of the most important rooms in our church is our prayer room. The great preacher, Charles Spurgeon, called the prayer room in his church the “boiler room” of all ministry. Every Sunday some of our church family file into our “boiler room” and pray for our services, ministries and other issues that are facing our people.  There’s something else we pray for each week that’s crucial….something bigger and farther than anything else having to do with our address………other churches.

As a pastor I know how easy it is to get tunnel vision on the church I lead and forget the bigger picture. We can get so focused on the bubble we live in that we forget that God is moving his mission forward down the street, across town, across the country and around the world. As as a pastor I have to work extra hard to remember that God’s mission is much larger than 7000 Destiny Dr. here in Raleigh.

Take some time today praying first for churches you know that are lifting up Jesus Christ. Name them one by one as you pray. Begin to stretch your prayers and pray for EVERY church in the world that names Jesus as a savior. Pray for their pastors, pray for unity, prayer souls to be saved, pray for peace to reign. Pray for God to stretch your heart toward a biggest vision for praying for churches no matter their denominational lines.

There’s so much to be done and we need to be lifting our brothers and sisters in Christ up in prayer.

I’m praying with you.
