Is Jesus Christ the only way to heaven?
Many that dispute Jesus as the only way to salvation point to the mountain analogy. The analogy goes like this: God is at the top of the mountain and he’s made many different ways (religions) up to Him: Mohammed, Buddha, Self-enlightenment, many others and of course Jesus. The thought is that God knowing that we are diverse people from all over the world would need many different ways to find him. This argument also satisfies people’s desire to not exclude anyone or any religion, but let all religions have equal footing.
Here’s the problem. If that’s the case, then God is a schizophrenic.
He’d have to be because Jesus destroys the mountain analogy in two ways:
1. Jesus says differently:
Jesus absolutely breaks down this argument when He says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” John 14:6
2. Jesus saves differently:
While other religions offer salvation through self-discovery and being good enough through behavior, Jesus saves by grace through faith in Him alone.
“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
If God was using every religion on earth to reveal himself why would he continually contradict Himself?
The answer is that God has seen fit to make salvation through Christ alone. Christ’s death and resurrection provides the saving work to rescue us from our sins. And anyone that places their faith in Jesus will be saved and given eternal life.
There’s only one path to God and His name is Jesus. Follow Him.
